OSO is an architecture and interior design office based in Tokyo and Brussels. The office was founded in 2017 by Michael Sypkens and Esteban Ochogavia, who previously worked together at Kengo Kuma and Associates.

Since its founding, OSO has worked closely with the Japanese fashion designer Yohji Yamamoto to design his retail environments. More than 50 projects have been completed, including the flagship on Rue Cambon in Paris, the new London location on Savile Row, and salon and retail spaces in mainland China, Taiwan, Korea, Hong Kong and Macau. Projects in Japan are mostly in commercial complexes in Tokyo, Osaka and Fukuoka. 

The office works across a range of architectural types, from high-rise towers to timber frame houses. OSO was the design architect for Deloitte Summit, a 25-storey tower with cantilevering glass volumes in central Vancouver, which was completed in 2022. Within this tower, OSO designed the interiors for Northeastern University and Spaces. In Tokyo’s Aoyama district, OSO led the design of Avior, a luxury housing renovation project completed in 2023. At the other end of the scale, K House and Amakusa House are compact, single-storey timber frame houses in urban and rural Japan.

Unbuilt work includes a shortlisted competition entry for the Irish Embassy in Tokyo, which proposed a series of offset, rusted steel volumes with stepped gardens throughout. A competition entry for low-rise housing in Bjärred, Sweden consisted of modular timber frame buildings with rotated balconies overlooking a public biotope. For a housing competition in Nishiazabu, Tokyo, three-storey-high pivoting louvres were designed as a buffer between the street and planted terraces. The competition entry for the Skogfinsk Museum in Norway proposed a mirror-clad gallery around a square courtyard that was partly raised over the river. A commission for an underground music venue in Blood Alley, Vancouver was designed as a four-storey high tunnel lined with live edge planks.
